Bollen Road, Mount Barker is an important collector road that currently connects Flaxley and Hawthorn Roads. The form and function of the road currently aligns with a level of service applicable to rural road with set-backed house frontages historically on one side.Currently the road has these following issues:<ul><li>The road pavement has reached end of life and requires renewal</li><li>The road is narrow with minimal shoulders in most areas</li><li>Overgrown vegetation in close proximity to the road together with minimal lighting and intersection treatments presents some potential road safety issues as greater activity occurs along the road frontage</li><li>Poor sightlines at the Hawthorn Road intersection needs addressing</li><li>Minimal pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure</li><li>Basic stormwater infrastructure and localised flooding.</li></ul>A draft concept plan has been prepared for the upgrading of Bollen Road at Mount Barker.The draft concept design proposes:<ul><li>An improved roadway with kerbing</li><li>Storm water drainage</li><li>A continuous shared path for pedestrians and cyclists</li><li>Pedestrian and cyclist crossing of Western Flat Creek adjacent Memorial Drive</li><li>Trail crossing provision for the linear trail pathway along Western Flat Creek</li><li>Some off road parking</li><li>Street lighting at intersections</li><li>50km/h speed limit and school zones</li></ul>The bus route will be retained and bus stop locations are being reviewed by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport.All high quality vegetation (trees, understory and grasses) will be retained.A new road link from Bollen Road to Hawthorne Road is currently under consideration in conjunction with a proposed residential land development, which will allow the closure of the current Bollen Road/Hawthorne Road intersection where sight distance through the cutting is very limited.Please see the plan here (update link) for further details.There are some things that are fixed on the Bollen Road Concept Plan these include:<ul><li>No kerbside parking</li></ul>What the community can influence:<ul><li>Location of the pedestrian crossing</li><li>Proposed road alignment of Bollen Road between Memorial Drive and Manfield Road</li><li>Proposed intersection treatments at Bollen/Silverwood Drive and Bollen/ Memorial Drive</li></ul>COMMUNITY CONSULTATIONCommunity feedback specifically regarding the Bollen Road Concept Plan is open from 18 October 2023&nbsp;to 6 November 2023.
