Consultation has concluded
The provision of a hard waste service has been identified as an important waste management initiative by the community.
Various service delivery options have been considered based on an evaluation criteria of resource recovery, equity and cost.
A preferred option has been considered by Council – an at-call service with flatbed truck using a social enterprise model to manually dismantle the collected hard waste and dispose of residual waste to landfill.
The Preferred Option provides the highest level of reuse and/or recycling is achieved through manual separation (no compaction). Resource recovery is estimated to be 30% and the residual waste is disposed of to landfill.
Details of the hard waste investigation and options are in the 6 April Council Report – Hard Waste Service
