Let's talk about the fun stuff!

Mount Barker District Council are developing an Arts Plan and we are keen to hear from the community and discuss ideas, opportunities and priorities relating to the arts.

When we are talking about the "arts", it covers all sorts of things including live music, festivals and events, street art, theatre, crafts, film and digital art, books, blogs, painting and everything in between. In developing the Arts Plan we would like people to think about...

  • How the arts can support local business and community organisations?
  • What arts activities would you like to see happening or be involved with?
  • Arts can help to foster healthier and happy people, neighbourhoods and communities - so how do we do that?

We have appointed Play Your Part - an arts and cultural consultancy to develop the plan with Maz McGann and Leonie Boothby preparing the document for Council.

To gather information and engage with the community in relation to the Arts Plan Maz and Leonie are leading a range of activities.

1. Community Workshops
Our community workshops provide you with an opportunity to be part of a broader conversation with other community members and the consultant team about arts and what might be possible.

2. Arts Mount Barker Survey
There is a quick survey on this page - it will only take you a few minutes to complete and you can tell us what you think and share your ideas.

3. Online Forum + Arts Ideas
There is an online form and an arts ideas page also below that you are welcome to add to - we would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

4. Creative Provocations
Keep an eye out for some artists who will be out and about talking to people and being creative in public places! Local Artist, Wendy Dixon-Whiley created the image above for our postcards, which you might have seen around the place.

The arts hold so many opportunities for Mount Barker District Council - helping to make it a more vibrant, prosperous and fun place to live and visit.

We would love to hear your thoughts about the Arts in the region.

What has happened in the past that you like and who's out there making great art?

What would you like to see more of?

What great ideas do you have for arts activities in the region?

What sort of creative things can we do to support health, wellbeing, education and tourism?
