8 November – 8 December 2021

The Mount Barker District Council has partnered with Burke Urban Investments to develop the Mount Barker City Centre Project. The project proposes an exciting range of new uses developed at the city centre site, with the first being the development of a Town Square.

It is intended that the design of the Mount Barker Town Square embraces unique design principles that are focused on community and environmental sustainability. The Town Square will provide an important civic space for the Mount Barker community, capable of hosting community events, public arts and performances, along with a range of food and retail offerings.

The community engagement will be undertaken by Council and Burke Urban Investments and will focus on the concept design for the Town Square. The engagement period will also see Burke Urban Investments present its Masterplan and vision for the whole of the city centre site, bounded by Hutchinson Street, Morphett Street, Stephen Street and Druids Avenue.

“The Mount Barker Centre Catalyst Project provides a once in a generation opportunity to develop a city-shaping project for the people of Mount Barker, underpinned by strong place making and community activation principles”, said Director of Burke Urban Investments, Kym Burke.

There will is a range of interactive activities and events planned over the ensuing month long engagement and is an opportunity for our Community to help shape the future of this important project.

Community engagement on the Town Square will run from 8 November - 8 December 2021, during which time the community is invited to view and provide feedback on the draft plans, take part in a guided site walk on 27 November @ the Town Square Site, attend consultation open days on 13 November @ Newenham and 4 December @ the Mount Barker Showgrounds to engage with Council staff and Bourke Urban Investment about their ideas for the town square site.
