What is a play space?

Many landscape architects use the term play space. A play space:

    • Recognises that play extends beyond equipment.
    • Reflects contemporary play principles, including nature play and unstructured play.
    • Better supports inclusive design for children of all abilities.
    • Acknowledges that carers, grandparents and teenagers are also users of the space.
    • Encourages thinking about the surrounding landscape, not just the equipment.
