Consultation has concluded

PROJECT UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2024

The 30% concept design went to public consultation during July 2024 and the results (positive) were considered by Council at its 2 September 2024 meeting.

The project will now proceed to final design which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Council also resolved to make application to the Storm Water Management Authority in February/March 2025 seeking subsidy towards the commencement of construction during 2025/2026.

Additionally, a small section of the Fletcher Road drain under the SteamRanger Heritage Rail line (SHR) will be constructed in January 2025 in conjunction with SHR rail track replacement works.

CONSULTATION WAS HELD 3-24 JULY 2024

Council is seeking the community's feedback on the draft concept design which aims to mitigate flooding in Bernhardt Court and Frame Court, Mount Barker.

Mount Barker Creek is the main creek system within Mount Barker and carries high water flows and Railway Creek enters Mount Barker Creek to the north-east of Bernhardt Court.

The draft concept design considers:

  1. retaining the 1 in 100 year flood event within the public realm,
  2. ensuring that the structural condition and hydraulic capacity of the existing Fletcher Road culvert on Railway Creek is adequate
  3. providing a storm water drainage system within Bernhardt Court and Frame Court,
  4. providing a storm water drainage system in Fletcher Road to prevent gutter flow from entering Bernhardt Court,
  5. landscaping and creek maintenance within the creek channels, and
  6. limiting the siltation of the creek.

What the community can influence:

  • Creek landscaping treatment
  • Creek formation/shape/alignment
  • Access from Frame Court along a portion of Railway Creek
  • Provide local knowledge on the impact of previous high water level flows

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

Community feedback specifically regarding the draft concept plan is open from 3-24 July 2024. During this period, Council invites the community to provide their feedback by on or more of the following ways:
