Council is seeking your ideas on how it could activate the facility commonly known as Parkindula Homestead.
Background
Council purchased the property at 71 East Parkway, Mount Barker, known as the Parkindula Homestead early in 2026.
At its meeting on the 3 August 2026, Council considered a proposal to activate the heritage-listed Parkindula Homestead for a range of potential uses, including a Local History Centre, venue hire and office/co-working space.
Council resolved that community engagement be undertaken to help determine the future use of the property, considering community benefit, service delivery and financial sustainability.
Potential uses
We want to understand what activities, services and uses the community would value, while also considering the heritage of the property, its location within a residential area and the cost of establishing, operating and maintaining the facility.
Your feedback will help Council identify potential options for further investigation. Some ideas may require further assessment, funding, approvals or a future Expression of Interest process.
