Consultation has concluded

Paech Road, Mount Barker is an important collector road that connects Wellington Road and Sims Road. The form and function of the road currently aligns with a level of service applicable to rural road with minimal house frontages.

Currently the road has these following issues:

  • The road pavement has reached end of life and requires renewal
  • The road is narrow with minimal shoulders in most areas
  • Overgrown vegetation in close proximity to the road together with minimal lighting and intersection treatments presents some potential road safety issues as greater activity occurs along the road frontage
  • Minimal pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure
  • Basic stormwater infrastructure and localised flooding.

A draft concept plan has been prepared for the upgrading of Paech Road at Mount Barker.

The draft concept design proposes:

  • Safe and compliant traffic lanes
  • Pedestrians and cyclist facilities
  • Suitable treatments at the various new intersections to connect new land developments
  • Lighting at intersections and pedestrian/cyclist crossings
  • Improved stormwater management
  • Road pavement renewal options
  • Speed limit of 60 km/h between Sims Road and Potts Road
  • Intersection treatment considerations at Heysen Boulevard/Paech Road intersection to suit the difficult and steep terrain on the western side approach
  • Improvements to the intersection at Paech Rd/Sims Rd and Sims Rd/Hartmann Rd,
  • Treatment options at Potts Road/Yunkunga Road intersection

Future bus stop locations are being considered by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport.

All high-quality vegetation (trees, understory and grasses) will be retained. No trees are proposed to be removed along Paech Road (other than 1 dead tree).

Please see the plan here for further details.

There are some elements that are fixed on the Paech Road Concept Plan and these include:

  • Location and extent of works
  • No kerbside parking provision
  • Stormwater management

What the community can influence:

  • Pedestrian movement and location of the pedestrian crossing
  • Proposed intersection treatments
