Council has drafted the new Open Space Strategy and Action Plans and invite your feedback.
After the success of the 2014 Open Space, Recreation and Public Realm Strategy which saw Council and community develop The Glebe park in Littlehampton, upgrade Davenport Square in Macclesfield, develop trail experiences in Hahndorf, upgrade Mick Murphy Park in Nairne, enhance activities at the Callington Oval and develop the Summit Sport and Recreation Park (Stage 1) and Summit Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Council has drafted the new Open Space Strategy.
With anticipated Council growth of up to 61% (circa 25,500 new residents) within the next 20 years, the planning and provision of quality open spaces to support community needs is critical. The Strategy considers the Councils current supply and demand in open space such as trails, parks and reserves and sport and recreation, and forecasts the future demand based on population growth and trends in activities.
The Strategy sets high level direction to the provision, design, and management of open space in a sustainable manner across the district. The direction guides the Action Plans for Sport and Recreation, Parks and Reserves, and Trails. After considering the drivers for shaping future open space needs, including population growth, urban expansion and equitable access to facilities these three action plans set out an aspirational pipeline of initiatives for sport, recreation, trails, and parks. They provide a menu of opportunities for Council and partners to draw from over time, guiding decisions, advocacy, and funding bids for the next 10 years.
