Council is seeking your feedback on the draft Environment and Sustainability Strategy 2035 (Strategy).

The draft Strategy was developed from early consultation with advisory and community groups, and an update to the State of the Environment Report.

The Mount Barker District Environment and Sustainability Strategy aims to set the direction for environmental action over the next decade to 2035. The draft Strategy reflects the evolving needs of our community, the urgency of local and global environmental issues, and our shared local commitment to becoming the most liveable region in South Australia.

The draft Strategy is structured around five interlinked themes:

  1. climate change
  2. nature and wildlife
  3. township greening
  4. integrated water management, and
  5. waste to resources

Each theme will be supported by its own four-year action plan which will provide a coordinated approach to achieving long-term sustainability goals, ensuring actions are focused, measurable, and adaptable to emerging challenges and opportunities.

We want to hear from you

View the draft Strategy to read the Vision, Principles and Objectives aligned to the 5 themes. Targets are also included and have been set to be ambitious but achievable.

We welcome your feedback on any of the content contained within the draft Strategy but especially the Objectives and Targets.

You can provide your feedback by:

  • sending an email to yoursay@mountbarker.sa.gov.au
  • posting or delivering a hard copy to Mount Barker District Council, 6 Dutton Road (PO Box 54), Mount Barker SA 5251
  • phoning Greg Sarre, Principal Advisor Sustainability on 8391 7257

Consultation is open from 7 May to 9 June 2025.

After feedback is reviewed, the draft Strategy will go to Council for endorsement, and development of five linked action plans will commence in the second half of 2025.

Alongside this planning and consultation process, we are continuing our on-ground efforts in environmental stewardship.
