Environment and Sustainability Action Plans
Help us shape a greener more sustainable future for Mount Barker district
Mount Barker District Council has adopted a new Environment and Sustainability Strategy setting our environmental direction to 2035.
It provides a collaborative framework for Council and the community to work together and achieve long-term sustainability goals across the district.
To implement this strategy successfully, the next step is to develop five supporting action plans focused on:
- Climate change - Adapting and building resilience to the impacts of climate change and working towards reducing emissions in line with state and federal targets.
- Nature and wildlife - Protecting, restoring, connecting and extending habitat for native species.
- Township greening - Establishing high levels of canopy cover and biodiverse areas as part of our open space network and road reserves.
- Waste to resources - Using resources carefully and efficiently, minimising waste and supporting the growth of the circular economy.
- Integrated water management - Conserving and using water wisely and implementing water sensitive urban design practices to support the ecology, greening and liveability of urban areas.
You can contribute to these supporting action plans by:
- Reviewing our Environment and Sustainability Strategy
- Attending our drop-in session Wednesday 17 December 2025 1:30pm – 6:30pm at Laratinga Pavillion, 100 Springs Road Mount Barker
This drop-in session is your opportunity to provide feedback to Council staff on the actions proposed so the five new plans are focused, measurable, adaptable - and community driven.
The supporting action plans are due to be presented to Council for approval in early 2026 paving the way for the next round of community consultation.
Help make Mount Barker district the most liveable region in South Australia by building a greener and more sustainable future together.
