Help us shape a greener more sustainable future for Mount Barker district

Mount Barker District Council has adopted a new Environment and Sustainability Strategy setting our direction to 2035.

It provides a collaborative framework for Council and the community to work together and achieve long-term sustainability goals across the district.

To implement this strategy successfully, five supporting draft action plans have been developed that focus on:

  1. Climate change - Adapting and building resilience to the impacts of climate change and working towards reducing emissions in line with state and federal targets.
  2. Nature and wildlife - Protecting, restoring, connecting and extending habitat for native species.
  3. Township greening - Establishing high levels of canopy cover and biodiverse areas as part of our open space network and road reserves.
  4. Waste to resources - Using resources carefully and efficiently, minimising waste and supporting the growth of the circular economy.
  5. Integrated water management - Conserving and using water wisely and implementing water sensitive urban design practices to support the ecology, greening and liveability of urban areas.

These draft action plans have been developed with input from the community and key stakeholders and we are now seeking your feedback to confirm that they reflect that input.

You may want to suggest changes or alternative approaches on specific elements of the draft Action Plans that are of interest or concern to you.
