Consultation Results

Part of the Byethorne Park playground is being renewed and we want to thank everyone for providing feedback on the types of play elements they would like to see replace the old equipment at this park.

In December 2025, 63 users of the park completed our online form to select their top three types of play elements and the results are in! The top three types of play elements selected include:

  1. Flying Fox (Track slider)
  2. Spinner
  3. Swing

Council is preparing tender documents for the design and construction of the new play equipment, and every endeavour will be made to include these elements in the new design. The aim is for construction to be completed by the end of 2026.

For more information on this process - please read on.

Project Background

There are two play areas in Byethorne Park, they are:

  1. An original area located along the boundary fence of Byethorne Park that has four pieces of old play equipment, and
  2. A new area created in 2019 through the Fund My Neighbourhood program that has a kick around space and nature play.

Due to the age and condition of the play equipment in the area along the boundary fence it is now time that it is replaced.

The equipment in the nature play area is not being renewed and will remain as is.

The play equipment being replaced

There are four pieces of play equipment along the boundary fence that need to be replaced, they are:

  • Flying fox/track rider
  • Rocker
  • Climbing frame
  • Musical drums

We asked the community to help us choose what will replace the old play equipment

We provided the community with the opportunity to be involved and tell us what types of play elements they would like to see replace the four old pieces of play equipment. An online tool and an in person engagement table was activated at the Nairne Community Carols on Saturday 13 December 2025.

The following list of play element types of play elements are listed below, and we asked the community to choose their top 3!

List of play elements

  • Slide
  • Swing
  • Rocker
  • See Saw
  • Spinner
  • Balancing structure
  • Climbing structure
  • Flying fox/track rider
  • Interactive panel games
  • Fixed musical instruments

Council will use this feedback to inform the scope of works for the delivery of new play elements at Byethorne Park.  The final number of pieces will depend on their individual costs and how they fit within the playground renewal budget.

Location for the new play equipment

Since we need to remove the old equipment, we are taking the opportunity to install the replacement equipment closer to the newer playground / nature play area.

The area along the boundary fence where the old play equipment is currently located will be returned to a natural passive space.
