In South Australia, the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 (the Act) provides for the management of dogs and cats in the community. Its purpose is to:

  • Encourage responsible dog and cat ownership;
  • Reduce public and environmental nuisance caused by dog and cats; and
  • Promote the effective management of dogs and cats

Council is responsible for the implementation of most of the requirements in the Act. The Act requires all Councils to produce a Plan of Management relating to dogs and cats within their local area. They are called Animal Management Plans and they are produced every 5 years.

The Mount Barker District Council's Animal Management Plan 2018-2022 is due for review. Council is seeking your feedback.
